Onion Gravy

Add taste and texture to any meal with this delicious gravy.

Slice the onions as fine as possible, with a mandolin if you have one as this gives you fine even onions and helps to release the flavour into the gravy.



50 ml olive oil
2 large onions
2 Knor rich beef stock
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tsp cornflour, mixed with a little cold water
200 ml boiling water from the kettle.
A knob of butter
Salt and ground black pepper to taste


Heat the oil in a large fry pan until hot, then reduce the heat to low.
Add the onions and garlic and cook the onions for around 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until you reach a lovely caramelised colour.
Add the boiling water, Knorr beef stock and cornflour and bring to the boil, stirring continuously.
Reduce to a low simmer and continue to cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the knob of butter and stir into the gravy until melted.
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
