Add food dyes to make your icing coloured or if you want a light fresh taste, why not add orange or lemon juice instead of water. This gives the icing a slight colour but a zingy taste.
Serves : 12 Prep/Cooking Time : 15 mins
Tip : If you happen to leave the icing mix for 10 or more minutes, it will thicken up. Just add a tsp or so of water and this will thin the icing down ready to use again.

Slightly heat the water to tepid temperature then tip in the icing sugar and stir in with a wooden spoon.
Using an electric handwhisk, beat the mixture until completely smooth and lump free
If you want the icing to be thinner, add more water a tsp at a time and if you want it to be thicker, less water
You can add all sorts of flavourings to the icing as well as colourings. This goes in at the whisking stage
If you dont want to use the icing immediately, cover with clingfilm, ensuring the the film just touches the icing. This will stop it from drying out and thickening up
