We love this as a traditional accompaniment to pork but if you double the quantity and leave it a bit chunkier, you wlll have plenty to use as a pie filling.
If you have babies in the house, rather than buying jarred food, just puree the sauce down so it is smooth and store in the mini Lock and Lock round containers.
Serves : 12 Prep/Cooking Time : 15 mins

Using a large bowl (the Lock and Lock ones are perfect as they have the lid to use as a spatter guard - just rest the lid on top, but do not lock), pop the chunks of apple in, along with the water and place in the microwave on full power for approximately 6 minutes, or until the fruit is softened but not mushy
When the apples have cooled, add sugar to taste, starting with the 1tbsp as suggested.
Using a fork or a potato masher, gently mash the apples down to the texture you prefer.
If you are using as a pie filling, you will need to double the quantity and leave it chunkier, for a sauce, mash a bit more and for baby food, mash completely or pop into a blender and give it a quick whizz
Once cooled, pop into your sterilized jars and refridgerate until required (eat within 1 week as there are no preservatives in it, unlike the supermarket bought versions.) or if you have been clever and made double or triple the quantity, put in your freezer until you need it.
I know I keep going on about it, but the smaller Lock & Lock containers are perfect for the freezer! - just take one out each time you need it
